Definitely not your neighborhood garage. Took my truck in for a electrical switch not functioning and a inspection. Paid $371 for them to fix a wire under the dash. Failed inspection for a cv axle and a exhaust leak. Quoted $1500 to fix the cv axle and the exhaust leak. Then recommended over $3k worth of items that they claim should be taken care of asap. Quoted $1500 for lower ball joints that needs replacing but they currently "fall within manufactures spec". Why would I replace something that falls within the manufacturers spec? However, It would be very simple to access the ball joints when they were already going to swap out the cv axle. I told the tech that I can change that cv axle and exhaust leak to pass the inspection. I questioned if I can bring it back in for the inspection sticker of approval after I make the repairs. The tech said that I would have to pay for another inspection because they have to reinspect the entire truck again. All they would have to do was go under the truck for 2 minutes, push on the cv axle and start the truck to check for the exhaust leak, and would have seen the repairs were made. Definitely not your local neighborhood garage feel. They are very good at diagnostic and their app is great at keeping the customer informed, but their prices are outrageous. Also check your owners manual for manufacturers recommended maintenance schedules, as this shop's recommendations are much more stringent and frequent than the manufacturers. Don't approve any work before doing your homework.
Dear Robert, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and yes, thank you our technicians have spent their lives learning their craft and are very good at diagnostics. Our service recommendations are the result of over 50 years of data collected in this very same location with the intention of keeping your car running like new for as long as possible. Our experience has shown us that ball joints that have too much play deteriorate quickly. PA State Inspection law requires us to perform a complete reinspection of a vehicle if it leaves our facility, therefore demanding our technicians time thus the charge. Any "neighborhood" garage that does not perform a complete reinspection has performed an illegal PA State Inspection. We take great pride in the business that we have grown right here that is about to celebrate 51 Years in this community, and we take pride that we always do the right thing and put safety and our customers first. We are sorry you are not satisfied and would be more than happy to discuss any questions you may have regarding the items presented that needed attention. Sincerely- Scott, Owner of Dave's Automotive
